Suicide Awareness
The La Loche Friendship Centre’s Embracing Life Project is almost complete and here is the link to the heart touching video they created. They are currently working on a media campaign and developing a website to support the video and its content.
“La Loche at one time was inundated with suicides and attempted suicides. We as a community were lost as to what to do. We never encountered this type of epidemic that was so severe and yet unpredictable. It crept through our community with such quietness and it left great family upheaval and despair in its path. We were at a loss as to how to stop it but we noticed that electronic media was the venting point for a lot of our youth. From this observation, we felt that the best way to reach out was to develop a video and our own website to assist our youth and to be used as a template for other communities to utilize.”
